A Call For Musicians: Attention All Musicians: The LA County Arts Commission is seeking LA County-based musicians to apply to the Musicians Roster, the only comprehensive online directory of professional music groups in the region. The Musicians Roster was designed for the Free Concerts in Public Sites program, which provides free concerts to community venues throughout LA County & pays musicians a performance fee at rates established by Local 47. It is also an important resource for the community at-large to access the rich & diverse pool of musical talent available in LA County. A link to the eGRANT online application is also located on the website. Please note: 2003-2006 Musicians Roster artists must reapply this year. The deadline to apply is March 8.

Outpost for Contemporary Art invites North American
artists to submit proposals for a group project series
called “Fair Trade.”

The series will take place in Los Angeles in Fall 2006
at sites appropriate to each accepted proposal.

The goals for “Fair Trade” :
•To activate untraditional and/or underutilized space
in Los Angeles to promote artistic experimentation to
a broader public
•To develop positive and productive collaborations
with artists to produce projects that arespeculative,
intellectually challenging, and risk-taking
•To consider how the three nations of the North
American continent assert strong identities while
simultaneously attempting to engage in mutually
beneficial partnerships.

Fair Trade Eligibility:
Professional artists or artist teams who reside in or
who are citizens of Mexico, Canada, or the United
States are eligible to apply.

Selection process and criteria:
Outpost for Contemporary Art’s Program Committee,
comprised of board members and community members, will
make final selections for the series. The Committee
will use the following criteria when reviewing artist
qualifications and submitted materials:
• Quality of the artwork submitted
• Professional qualifications (as evidenced in resume,
slides, letter)
• Applicability of previous work to the series at hand

• Budgetary limitations

Projects that are event-oriented and either
participatory in nature or geared toward activating
public space will be favored. Artists should be
available to travel to Los Angeles in the fall of 2006
to execute their project.


Budget:
Outpost will provide for artist travel and
accommodations and award a $500 honoraria per project.
Outpost will support reasonable production costs and
will assist artists by using its resources to secure
in-kind donations, such as venues and materials, and
providing insurance, when needed. Budgetary review
will happen at the finalist level. Budgets need not be
submitted in preliminary proposal materials. Once
finalists areselected, the financial viability of each
proposed project will be reviewed. Finalists will
participate in this review process.

What to submit:
1) Project proposal – one page summary describing your
idea and desired outcomes. Please include location or
type of space needed, timeframe, material, labor, and
other needs.
2) Current Resume
3) Slides or Digital Images (up to 20 total) Number
each slide or image and label each slide or CD with
artist’s name if mailing. If e mailing, please send
images in low-resolution or compressed format.
4) Annotated Slide/Image List – A typed sheet listing
each slide or digital image, numbered in sequence, and
indicating title, medium, dimensions, date and
location.
5) SASE – A self-addressed stamped envelope for the
return of your materials. Please be sure that your
name appears on all materials submitted.

Deadline:
All submitted materials must be received by Outpost no
later than February 13, 2006.

All artists who submit a proposal will be contacted
personally and notified as to the status of their
proposal by the end of February.

cross-cultural exchange through its programs by
introducing international artists in conjunction with
local and national artists. Seeking to build energetic
relationships among diverse communities, Outpost
functions as an accessible and informal meeting ground
where artist and audience alike can engage in
dialogue.

Established in 2004 as a non-profit organization,
Outpost for Contemporary Art does not have a fixed
location but instead develops and facilitates artists’
proposals in a variety of locations throughout Los
Angeles.
